Frequently Asked Questions
Who is Stéphane Kouamé
Stéphane Kouamé is the creator of The HEMB Method™, a framework to create holistic programmes aimed at helping people bring balance to their mind and body.
The background to this method goes back to his exposure to Martial Arts, Buddhism, Yoga, Coaching and various spiritual teachings and wisdom from various cultures and eras.
The method came to him one morning during meditation after asking himself what had been defining all his trajectory until this present day what his work was all about and the answer that came was clear: learning to balance Energy.
Is yoga a good type of exercise?
Yogais not an exercise. There is a misleading impression that yoga is exercise because most gyms, knowing that yoga becomes popular, want to capitalise on that and include the term yoga in their timetable, encouraging instructors to focus essentially (if not exclusively) on movement, including music and themes to go with the mundane trends.
Yoga is an ancient set of practices that address the needs for balancing the mind and the body, to develop awareness and learn about what we are. This cannot be achieved without including breathwork and mediation, postures are neverthe ultimate goal, as a matter of fact, someone could well be incapable of exercising and still benefits from the teachings of yoga. So, don'tbe confused: there are exercise based on yoga, and there is yoga. two different things.
What is the origin of yoga?
Although archeology has found yoga style postures depicted in Ancient Egypt, it is in India that the philosophy and principles havebeen compiled in a system that has been passed to us.
it's in the 6th century BC that the yoga sutras have been put down in writing by Patanjali (whether this was the name of a sage or a concile of scholars, we don't really know).
What is the best type of yoga?
The best type of yoga is the one that you set up to practice, always with as much presence and honesty as you can.
Sometimes, we need to make our practice more dynamic and challenging, sometimes we need a gentle, restorative practice, sometimes we just need to sit for a longer eriod of time is stillness and silence...
I am not very spiritual, is yoga compatible with me?
What does it mean to be spiritual?
It simply means that we are open to recognising that there is a reality greater than our little strategic mind.
We don't have to convert to Hinduism in order to make yoga a spiritual practice.
For example: when you step in the yoga space, cometo realise that you are giving yourself a timeto be free from all expectations anddemands from the mudane world, come into silence and leave your phone away from your mat (and from your mind)... This is already practicing your own spirituality. No need for labels and folklore.
Is the HEMB Method™ a fitness programme?
No. The HEMB Method™ is a not a programme in itself. It is a simple and practical framework that serves to create well-being programmes for individuals.
Programmes using this method can be easily tailored to various needs while ensuring a holistic approach to wellness.
The HEMB Method™ can also be used to elaborate programmes to support well-being in the workplace..
Who created The HEMB Method™ and why?
Stéphane Kouamé created The HEMB Method™ in 2024 after having spent over 40 years exploring, practising and studying various disciplines: Martial Arts and spiritual paths, self-development and healing modalities and after 10 years of teaching yoga.
The HEMB Method™ encapsulates in a practical form, the principles of empowerment and transformation that are present and effective in ancient teachings and modern approaches. Its simple structure allows that the essential aspects of wellbeing can be cattered for and cultivated into anyone's daily life, to bring balance and alignment, to reshape the way we create our life.
What are the "5 Cups of Wellness" described in The HEMB Method™?
The 5 Cups explained
The 5 Cups of Wellness as described by The HEMB Method™, also called "the non-negotiables of Wellness" are the five areas to which we will bring focus and intention, daily, in order to refine the energy that runs through us.
The 5 Cups are listed below with a breif explanation of how to "fill them up".
1) Meditation
Filling this cup daily will help shape the transformation that you wnat to see in your life. Meditation creates an attitude of openess to seeing things as they are. Meditation (secular or spiritual) helps to clear the mind and create a space allowing energy, information and possibilities to flow through us more freely.
Morning meditation can be used to ground ourselves in the present, to feel more energised, to think and feel the way we prefer to show up today.
In the evening, we can choose a relaxing type of guided relaxation, that will help to ease into a good night sleep.
2) Breath Work
Always happening but rarely consciously done.
Breath work allows us bring more energisation or soothing effect to the nervous system and to the whole body. Some techniques help to find a renewed energy for decision making, for challenging physical actions or to imporve digestion; others techniques help us to move into a deep a restorative sleep.
Get into the habit of practicing breathing techniques before engaging into muscular work (you need more oxygen when you go work out).
3) Movement
Movement is so essential! We are made to move. Sedentarity, sitting our lives seated for hours and hours needs to be balanced with movement. Movement allows energy to move, helps to shift the focus from overthinking towards feeling the body's aliveness.
Yoga brings together the benefits of exercise, meditation and breath work all together, this is why we advocate for introducing some yoga in your life if you want to expand the scope of wellbeing beyiond just the surface of "looking good" and breaking a sweat. All types of (varied) movement are to be encouraged in the context of the HEMB Method™, as long as they combine awareness, increased mobiity, stamina, balance, stretching and... JOY!
4) Nutrition
Our programmes come with meal plans to support you in the transformation on a micocosmic level.
The meals, developpoed in accordance with integrative Health advices, are designed to support the energetic needs of the individual and support their hormonal balance, depending of their gender, age, life style.
5) Rest
Rest is probably the most misunderstood aspect of wellness.
Resting is not just going for a nap. Sometimes even a night sleep is not really restful.
The programme will introduce you to techniques for a true rest of your mind and body: We offer short guided relaxation audios for moments when a little break is needed and also long full body relaxation audios, for after a long demanding day.
The programme will also teach you some postures to be done reclining on the floor (on a carpet, yoga mat... Keep it comfortab;le). These postures from Yin Yga are essential in helping the body to release tension that are stored deep within tissues and increase range of mobility.
I do not exercise regularly (almost never), I know nothing about meditation, can I still benefit from the wellness programme based on The HEMB Method™?
The HEMB Method™ has been created with the lifestyle of modern day busy people in mind. A wellness programme based on The HEMB Method™ focuses on the easy ways we have at our disposal to refine, balance and manage our energy.
Your programme will be tailored to what you need and to your abilities so you can become more aware of how your mind, breath, diet, physical activity and rest are interconnected.
Is the WaW programme an office yoga programme?
The wellness at Work programmes do encourage to incorporate some yoga into daily life but ARE NOT "office yoga" programmes, they are holistic programmes that adress the needs of people for a balnced state of mind and body, something that usually make their life at work much more agreable and easy.
As with all our programmes, the WaW programmes use The HEMB Method as the framework of reference to help people create the balanced life state that they need and deserve.
The WaW programmes also offer "on-site" interventions (UK only) to allow participants to get started and "Booster workshops" to support people in maintaining the routines until they reach autonomy and confience in their ability to stay on top of things.
What is the difference between the WaW programme (Wellness at Work) and the Individual Wellness & Transformationprogramme?
Both share a similar structure including meditation, breath work, movement, Rest and Diet.
The Individual Wellness & Transformation Programme is a longer programme, it includes more content geared towards promoting self-empowerment and personal transformation.
The Wellness at Work Programme focuses essentially on balance of mind and body in daily life. Another difference is that within the contect of the WaW programme (for companies andorganisations), some workshops will take place at the begining and later during the running of the programme.
Do I need to have any yoga experience to do the individual Wellness Programme
No yoga experience is required to get the most of your programme. People have different abilities, age, and life styles and the programmes take this into consideration. The programme offers some introduction to gentle yoga to those who have no eperience or do not necessary want to become full fledge yogis.
The same thing with meditation. If what you need is to learn how to come into mindfulness 5 minutes at a time, your programme will offeryou this. Someonle else might require longer or meditations thatare more spiritual in nature, their programmes will offer that.
What if I don't have time for meditation in the morning?
Decide to wake up earlier. Your transformation into a different person, more capable, more focused, more present will not be possible if you do not challenge the status quo of your reality.
Morning meditation does not have to be 30 minutes. 10 minutes may be enough for grounding yourself and oprning yourself to all the possibilites that the day can hold for you. Stop finding excuses.
How long before I can get some results from the programme?
If you do follow the instructions of your programme, which is tailored to suit your needs (as expressed on the pre-enrolment form), you may well find from the first day that your mental activity, your emotional state and how you feel physically all starts to work hand in hand.
I am a very busy person, will the Individual Wellness programme work for me?
The Individual Welness Programme, like all our programmes, are based on The HEMB Method™ to ensure that even very busy people get the most out of it whether they go to the gum regularly, not at all, whether they are spiritual or not, vegan or not.
As long as they are willing to dedicate at least 10 minutes for morning meditation, 5 minutes of breath work and at least 15 minutes of movement.
Note thaton the days when your schedule is just too fulll, breath work and movement can actually be done together for 10 minutes.
